Fuel Subsidy: CLICK TO VIEW !

Presidency tackles Atiku again, wants clarity on ex-VP’s stance.

Atiku, who has sought Nigeria’s presidency in six election cycles since 1993, had previously supported petrol subsidy removal during some of his campaigns.

The presidency has again faulted the position of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who has pledged to restore petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027.

Mr Onanuga said the subsidy removal had significantly improved the fiscal position of the three tiers of government and helped stabilise the macroeconomic environment.

He stated this in a statement on Wednesday in response to Atiku’s latest position on petrol subsidy. Atiku, a former vice president, had proposed a “targeted subsidy” to make transportation more affordable and accessible to Nigerians if elected president.

TRUENEWS had earlier reported that Atiku said he believed the progress and wealth of a country should be measured by citizens’ ability to purchase goods and services, rather than by how much revenue the government collects.
